Work frequently takes precedence over all other aspects of
our existence. Our ambition to achieve professionally sometimes cause us to put
our own well-being on the back burner. Creating a harmonious work-life balance,
or work-life integration, is vital not only for our physical, emotional, and
mental well-being, but also for our professional success
Employees in businesses that focus on efficient and
effective performance might contribute more effectively to organizational
growth and subsequent success if they have a better work-life balance
What is the Work – Life Balance
In a nutshell, work-life balance is a condition of
equilibrium in which a person prioritizes both his or her professional and
personal obligations equally. The following are some of the most common causes
of a bad work-life balance:
According to reiter (2007), that
most work-life balance definitions are situational, and that the concept of
work-life balance is subjective. The balance between work and personal
activities, as well as how it is achieved, varies from person to person,
depending on when one is pleased with both work and personal life. As a result,
the individual devotes an identical amount of time to each area, supporting the
absolutist approach to defining work-life balance.
TIP’s to support Better Work – Life Balance at Work place
·
Encourage managers to focus on Productivity rather than
hours.
Encourage managers to focus on the accomplishment of a
specific task rather than the number of hours they work.
·
Regularly Review
You'll need to become familiar with the
mechanisms for allocating work. What appears to management to be a minor task
could take an individual a day to complete.
·
Lead By Example
Assist managers and the senior leadership team in
maintaining a good work-life balance.
Make sure they're departing on time, taking breaks, and
not emailing employees outside of business hours or expecting them to deliver
work on unrealistic timelines when it's not urgent.
·
Acknowledge every employee is different
Many of your
workers may be desperate for a better work-life balance. Others, on the other
hand, may be content with the amount of time they spend working.
Some people
like to start work later but are content to finish it later as well. Others may
be willing to work longer hours if it means they can unwind when they get home.
·
Reconsider time OFF
Could you afford to give your employees more vacation
time?
Another strategy to avoid burnout is to force employees
to take vacation time over the Christmas season by not allowing them to carry
over vacation days or limiting the number of days they may carry over.
Most team members would prefer to schedule time off rather
than risk losing it.
·
Give employees time to volunteer
When it comes to seeking for work,
research suggests that millennials are more driven by social activity than by
money
